In the beginning…

So you’ve stumbled upon this website about Ghost of Tsushima Legends

As a way of introduction, this site started as a fun little side thing back in 2021. Legends had been out for about 6 months, several of us had been actively gathering and compiling data (taking some things that others knew/learned, fact-checking things generally agreed upon, setting up time to test things yet to be tested or unknown enitrely).

Why do this?

  • Part of it was a love of the game
  • Part of it was dispelling misinformation that floated around

One of the first misnomers that plagued the community was Melee Resolve Gain (or MRG). MRG was discounted as ‘doing nothing’ and being ‘broken’. In-game it seemed like it did nothing when observed in combat. After a few videos circulated around, everyone believed it was useless.

Now, I will preface by saying, MRG has been buffed since (to a max of 25% on Katana or 25% on Charm), and it isn’t that great (to be honest, it’s mediocre at best except for very niche setups), but it was NEVER broken.

What I set out to do, was gather more intel on what MRG would be based off of; Resolve Gain. So I started a resolve gain Google sheet (sometime in Dec 2020).

  • I started testing the main attacks first
  • Then I started documenting details (resolve per strike, x strikes for 3 resolve)
  • Then I asked a couple people to fact-check me (do you get the same results)
  • Then we started testing MRG% and other Resolve boosts

What we found was Melee Resolve, at a baseline, had TERRIBLE resolve gain versus most other methods. Light attacks would take 50 strikes to generate 3 resolve. So when you take into account a small bonus to resolve gain for melee, it was hardly noticeable without truly measuring it.

From there, the “Data Sheet” evolved to capture more and more data points. It expanded outward to encompass more players, and more testers, and slowly help the community map the game, for better understanding of strategies, mechanics, and other techniques.

Today, our goal is to continue on that mission, making the information more accessible to everyone, and (hopefully) a little easier to read as a website vs a google sheet.

Enjoy!
