What is a “Build”?

How we define a ‘build’ on this site: The basic gist of what makes a ‘build’ a ‘build’ is having some type of focus that synergize your Class, Ability, Techniques, Gear, and overall “playstyle”. Generally, a build will focus on 1-2 primary aspects or attributes and then shape the rest of the choices around that.

Here is how we categorize ‘builds’ here:

  1. By Class – generally this is the most common one, you choose a Class and then assign an Ability, Techniques, & Gear to suit that Class
  2. By Game Mode – This really just takes it a step further to say “each game mode has a different purpose/objectives, how do I maximize efficiency to suit that mode?”
  3. By Playstyle – After you have a firm mastery of classes & game modes, you can start to experiment more with what suits you best (ie do you like melee combat, or more focused on staggering opponents, or applying statuses like fire & poison). Then you choose gear and class to optimize your output.

How do I find a build?

At the start of the game, you will not want to focus too much on creating a build; rather, the advice is to save all Resources (Essence/Honor/Blessings), and just equip the highest Ki gear per gear slot (regardless of what it does/what it is). Then grind out leveling and gaining more gear until you reach 105-110Ki. At that point, you can start re-rolling gear and setting up your build.

When you reach the end-game content (Challenge Modes), there will be objectively better builds & classes for particular scenarios (Speed-running, Survivability, Support, Solo, etc) but this is not to say they are the “only” builds allowed; rather, if you are trying to achieve a particular goal, there are some better-tested & proven builds that increase the odds of success. That is what will be provided here; a baseline for things that work well and give you the platform to experiment. One thing to keep in mind is that every build typically needs a set ‘purpose’, that is you build around 1-2 primary attributes or playstyles

Gear for Builds

In order to setup a new build, you will need to navigate to the Gear menu. This menu is where new gear will appear from missions, where you can change the gear on your build, and where you may modify (or dismantle) your gear.

First select the “Character” menu option
Then select the “Gear” menu option

When you are in the Gear menu, you can select a particular gear to ‘modify’ (Square button on PS controller). If you navigate to a particular gear slot (ie Property 1), you have the option to Reroll it to other properties (and view those Possible Outcomes). If you press + hold R2, it will display a brief description of each Possible Outcome.

Builds By Class

“Brother, you are a warrior. I can see that. You trained your whole life for this. And you have won battles that lesser men have called unwinnable, yes? But while you were sharpening your sword, do you know how I prepared for today? I learned. I know your language… your traditions… your beliefs… which villages to tame and… which to burn. So I ask you once again, samurai, do you surrender?”
