Disarming Enemies
Ghost of Tsushima Legends has some fun mechanics and glitches that can be done. Not all of the glitches are particularly useful, but can be in some niche moments.
Disarming Enemies is one of these glitches, it’s not particularly useful, but can be in some very niche cases. And most of all, it’s fun to do!
So what is it?
Well, as the name suggests, the glitch is disarming the enemies. By doing so their weapons are taken away, and thus they aren’t able to do anything. They’ll stand around you, though they do it very menacingly!
Which enemies can be disarmed?
In theory all enemies can be disarmed. The smaller enemies which you can “throw” quite easily are also disarmed more easily. The bigger enemies like brutes or oni can be disarmed but have to be thrown by the Ronin’s Staggering Breath.
Even enemies like Oni Archers and Crows can be disarmed. Though beware that despite not having a weapon, the Crows can still shoot crows at you.
Below you can find a video of what it looks like in practice:
How does it work?
In order to disarm enemies, you’ll need them to kneel. When an enemy kneels, you have the option to do a critical strike on them. If the enemy is low enough health, this will kill the enemy. While you kill the enemy, the enemy will drop his weapon.
We make use of this by canceling the animation, this cancels the kill and the enemy will stay alive. The weapon will be dropped and thus the enemy disarmed.
Enemies kneel when they’re thrown. There are various ways to get enemies to kneel they are:
– Impactful Throws (Charm Perk)
– Sticky Bomb (direct throw only)
– Wind Kick (Wind Katana + Wind Master) (only works for smaller enemies = mongols excluding Brutes)
– Staggering Breath (Ronin Ultimate)
– Yoshitsune’s Hand (Legendary Katana – chance to stagger)
In short:
- Have a way to make enemies kneel ready
- Make sure the enemy you are disarming is low enough health so he’ll be killed if you critically strike him while he kneels
- Make the enemy kneel
- Approach the enemy from the front until you see the prompt to critically strike him
- Activate the prompt and cancel it by blocking the moment the enemy drops his weapon.
- If done correctly, the enemy will have dropped his weapon, but will stand back up
- The enemy is now disarmed
The impactful throws is by far the easiest way to get enemies to kneel. You can shoulder bash smaller enemies and they’ll kneel. The other options will work, but not as well and may require some extra effort.
