Which objects can you throw?

The Ghosts can pick up Barrels and Idols, carrying them over their shoulder. These objects can be placed normally, or dropped/thrown.

Where are these objects?

Barrels are found in Story, Survival and Rivals missions. Idols are found in the Tale of Iyo Chapters 1 and 2, as well as the Trials of Iyo.

Why throw objects?

Objects can be thrown in order to move them around more quickly, execute certain environmental tricks or be able to get back into combat in a split second.

Methods of Throwing Objects

Flute Method

  • Hold object
  • Play your flute

Controls needed

  • Play Flute – Swipe left on touchpad / XBOX / MKB

Ghost Weapon Method

  • Hold object
  • Have a Ghost Weapon on cooldown
    • You can ready + activate them normally while holding an object to achieve this
    • Way of the Flame is an exception – it is automatically unusable when holding an object, which causes the same behaviour as being on cooldown
  • Hold the input to ready your Ghost Weapon, then tap both the input to use your Ghost Weapon and the one to place the object at the same time
    • You can spam the Use input and then tap the Place input while doing so to pull this off this very easily
    • If you are using Way of the Flame, spamming will cause you to use it after throwing the object if it was unusable but not on cooldown

Controls needed

  • Ready Ghost Weapon – R1 / RB / MKB
  • Use Ghost Weapon – Square, Triangle or Circle / X, Y or B / MKB
  • Place Object – R2 / RT / MKB

Tips and Info

Both methods can give the object some momentum if you execute them while moving – a small amount with the Flute method and a large amount with the Ghost Weapon method.

The Flute method is quick and easy, great for dropping an object quickly to avoid taking damage. The Ghost Weapon method is ideal for more niche tricks: it can be used to roll objects down slopes, throw them off of ledges or pass them to your teammates.
